THE MEANINGS WOVEN IN
花の丸
hana no maru
A wish for each season of life to open in flower.
Flower Roundels
A new beginning →01
Where it comes from
Hana no maru gathers flowers into a circle: stems or branches are bent round, or blossoms are set inside a round frame. One roundel may hold a single flower, such as chrysanthemum blooms with leaves curling like a vine, or each plant may get its own roundel, as with pine roundels and plum roundels on one obi. Scattered across a ground, the circles can look like temari balls. With cherry, maple, paulownia, chrysanthemum, and narcissus side by side, a single cloth can hold the flowers of the whole year.
02
On the cloth
On obi, flower roundels may be strewn over a quiet ground, or set on squares of gold leaf like the panels of a coffered ceiling. Here roundels of flowers gather with the character kotobuki on black, in vermilion, gold, and green; and on gold, flower roundels meet wisteria in pink, green, and red.

03
To give
Flower roundels suit any age and any season, and they are a fine choice for a coming-of-age. It is a gift for someone you hope will meet each turn of the year in bloom.
