THE MEANINGS WOVEN IN
観世水
A wish for days that keep flowing, and stay clear.
Kanzemizu
01
Where it comes from
The name comes from the Kanze school of Noh theatre, whose family is said to have used this swirl of water as its mark. Its curling lines show water that turns back on itself and still moves on, never quite the same twice. People have given it the old wish carried by flowing water: a life that keeps moving, washes clean, and begins again.
02
On the cloth
On obi, kanzemizu may fill the ground in soft whorls or cross it in long curving bands. Here it appears in blue with vermilion, green, and gold; on cream with peach, vermilion, and gold; and on cream again as flowing stripes of vermilion and green.

03
To give
It has been given to people at a turning point: starting over, moving to a new place, stepping into a new season of life. It is also a quiet choice for someone who teaches, performs, or keeps learning.
